think outside the (vox)box: origins original skin

Sometimes, you come across a miracle product that can change your entire outlook. It makes the sun shine brighter, the birds chirp a lovely tune and just like that, you fall madly in love with a product that makes you see the best in life.

I was one of the 3,056 participants to received the Origins Original Skin VoxBox complimentary of Influenster (thanks again!) and I’m here to tell you my thoughts and experiences with this lineup.

The number one thing to take away from is I am OBSESSED with this moisturizer.

My skin is usually a hot mess (eventually I get a handle on that whole skincare thing) but on most days, it’s easy to tell that I have oily/combination skin.

Excessive oiliness is something that I’m self-conscious about, along with my enlarged pores and blackheads. My T-Zone and my nose take the brunt of my oiliness and  I keep blotting papers in my purse because there’s been times that my glasses have slipped off my nose because of it!

I try to find products that combat the excessive sheen, but in doing so, I find things that normally strip my skin of the natural oils it needs. It’s literally like trying to play Goldie Locks, finding the perfect moisturizer.

Inside this VoxBox, there were three products: the Origins Original Skin Matte Moisturizer, the Origins Original Skin Renewal Serum with Willowherb and the Origins Original Skin Retexturing Mask. Since it’d only be fair, I’m going to break down my thoughts on each item individually before discussing the lineup as a whole.

Origins Original Skin Matte Moisturizer

Off the bat, I love the fact that this is a gel-ish moisturizer, giving it a very cooling sensation upon application. It’s so quick drying that right after applying, my skin feels smooth, oil-free and ready for makeup application. If I’m going au-natural, my skin is left pretty matte throughout the day and it doesn’t feel too dry or patchy.

When it comes to how my makeup lasts throughout the day with a matte base, it still tends to stay oily along my T-zone, the sides of my nose and my chin, which I mentioned are my usual problem areas, but it’s a hell of a lot better compared to how other moisturizers leave my skin very saturated and slick.

The scent of this moisturizer is interesting, but delightful. It’s hard to explain, but it smells clean and refreshing, which is always a bonus for me.

Origins Original Skin Renewal Serum

Serums aren’t normally my jazz, because I don’t love layering a bunch of products on my skin. My skin can’t handle a ton of different products and sometimes less is more in my mind. However, this isn’t too dense or oil-based, playing off that similar gel-consistency as the moisturizer and it’s easy to blend.

Like the moisturizer, it’s quick drying and doesn’t leave my skin heavy. The two paired together like peanut butter and jelly and I certainly don’t hate it.

Origins Original Skin Retexturing Mask

Face masks are among one of my favorite things. I’m talking like top five favorite things alongside Moe’s queso, french bulldogs, hockey, Rice Krispie treats  and (sometimes) my boyfriend.

I’ve said it so many times before, but zoning out for 15-20 minutes with a face mask on is one of the most therapeutic things you can do for yourself. If you ever need a self-love date, do yourself the favor by slathering on a face-mask, putting on a series you’re binge-watching, turn off your phone and devote half an hour to yourself. You deserve it.

Personally, I love face masks that tighten the longer they are on. (Plus, it gives you more purpose to really zone out since you can’t move your face!) This one is a hidden gem and I’ll be highly considering of repurchasing, since it’s relatively cheap! My pores were noticeably smaller after one use and my face looked much brighter.

With continued use, I’m excited to see just how much smaller my pores can get.

As a lineup, this is definitely recommended for those who are looking for something to combat shininess. In all, this is a collection that I would repurchase a million times over.
